Old England Vets V Old England Current
Author: fullers
On Sunday 19th april 2009, the biggest and best game of old englands year ,the old boys.In the end, as expected the current side won (although closer than many expected). It started with vets very dominent untill 2 tactical substitutions from mastamind genius Thomas Taylor turned the gome bringing on Kyle and Foy.Pub owner Foy played a through ball through to pacy Kyle who finished enthaticly. Both sides went in at the break to father and son Andy & Thomas Taylor, happy with their first half performances. In the second half Chris Riedel beat Bomber at his near post from a half cleared free kick. Later on Simon Johnson pulled one back for vets witch produced wild celebrations by the many spectators, before Jamie Fullalove made it 3-1 to current old e.Dave Stone added to make it 3-2 after some shocking refereeing decisions by Nobby, not seeing Adam Clarks flag on his near side. Overall a great day in Old England history. Hoping to do it again sometime pre-season.Thankyou to Foy for the afternoon in the pub and to many players, managers and spectators for turning out. Old England 0-2 Number 4 Celtic
Author: fullers
The Old England started their pre season today at Mereside. As it was a saturday we had to manage with 12 players due players having other commitments elsewhere. With the Sun beaming down and been the first match since May it was always going to be difficult against a side which had several young players that had already played 5 friendlies. With Opey behind a back four of Simmy, Clarkey, Riedel & new signing Dave the defence had a fairly familiar look about it. A midfield of the Johnson Brothers, Gaz Walker and another new signing in Pooley started brightly and got stuck in early doors. Kyle & Chris P were the front two working hard putting the opposition back four under pressure in the opening 15 minutes. After 15 minutes our Ginger Chavtastic friend made an appearance and did well when he came on, even putting a shot on target(Yes on target!!!) from the half way line. Then after 20 minutes, Celtic's tricky number 7 broke away from the defence after a clever through ball from Midfield and lobbed Opey from the edge of the box. The Old England managed a few corners and were by no means outplayed up until and after this point leading up to half time. Water was aplenty at half time with the Old England players clearly knackered after their first 45 minutes football for a while. The 2nd half was unfortunately a bit of a non event, Number 4 Celtic had a superior fitness advantage over Old England, and added another goal mid way through the 2nd half. This killed the game and it was one way traffic from there until the end of the game with Celtic dominating the game at both ends. The score finished 2-0 but the work out would have done the Old England good, and will help them on their way to be ready for the start of the season. Man of the Match Clarkey – Stand in Skipper today commanded the defence despite been unwell for the last few days AUTHOR :CHRIS RIEDEL
